Larry Turbes

Larry Turbes
Larry Turbes is primarily a self-taught artist, working for the past 24 years drawing, painting and sculpting. His focus is the human figure. Larry has worked out of various downtown Duluth studios, and since retiring from architecture in 2015, now dedicates full time to his art. He’s currently in a group studio at 101 East Michigan Street. The group’s focus for the past eight years has been figure study and painting. This exhibition presents new developments in Larry’s oeuvre, moving from a fairly representational Impressionistic format into an era of later Modernism. As always, the common denominator is the human figure.

The Art Of Ubuntu

Ubuntu
‘The Art of Ubuntu’ Exhibit.

Echoes of Peace and Zeitgeist present ‘The Art of Ubuntu’ Exhibit.
Artists were invited to draw their inspiration from the Zulu term ubuntu (oo-BOON-too), a concept from South Africa meaning “I am because we are.” This understanding of interrelatedness is at the root of many of the world’s wisdom traditions. It is akin to the deep sense of relationship expressed in the Lakota/Dakota phrase Mitakuye Oyasin, and the Anishinaabe phrase Gakina Awiya Gidinawendimin. We are all related.
Artists featured in the art exhibit include AJ Atwater, Susan Banks, Sarah Brokke Erickson, Laura Birnbaum, Mary Downs, Alison Aune-Hinkel, Joel Cooper, John Hinkel, Sarah Holst, Susan Binczak Krochalk, Elizabeth Kuth, Cecilia Lieder, Alberta Marana, Penny Perry, Mary Plaster, Thomas Rauschenfels, Jeanne Riese, Roberta Sawyer, Adam Swanson, Ivy Vainio, Moira Villiard, Jan Wise.

OUR SPONSORS & PARTNERS

These fantastic local businesses have made a commitment to supporting the artistic programming that happens at Zeitgeist.
Make sure you thank them by supporting them back!

Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our many partners and supporters in past years. Whether you are a community nonprofit that has used the space for a fundraiser or film screening, or a corporation that has used our private dining room for a conference or event, we simply couldn’t continue to do the work we do without your support. THANK YOU!
